Philip Carter, BSc, DDS, MSc. (ORTHO)
Dentistry runs in the family!
Dr. Carter’s grandfather came over from Ireland to Winnipeg in 1908 to escape one of the many potato famines. He apprenticed as a dental technician but started dental school soon after, which at that time was a two-year stint in the medical school and an apprenticeship. Dr. Carter is fortunate to have his grandfather’s certificate to practice dentistry, from 1917, on the wall of his office.
Dr. Carter’s father also became a dentist, after graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1938. His certificate is displayed below his dad’s. Dr. Carter’s mom worked with her dad and brother for seven years.
Dr. Carter graduated from dentistry in 1973 from the University of Toronto with an undergraduate degree in physics from 1969. He practiced dentistry for two years with Health Canada on the Six Nations and Moose Factory reserves. Then he associated in general dentistry for three years in the Ottawa area. Dr. Carter returned to the University of Manitoba as a student in orthodontics and graduated in 1981 with a Master of Science in orthodontics.
Dr. Carter has been in private orthodontic practice in downtown Winnipeg since 1982. He feels blessed to work with an unbelievable, talented, and amazing team that makes coming to the office every day a joy. He couldn’t be luckier!
